Annual Water System Maintenance Occurring March 3-31

February 26, 2025

Windmill Farms Residents,

The City of Forney will be performing its annual water system maintenance March 3-31, 2025. This is a critical part of the water treatment process that keeps drinking water free of contaminants.

What Does This Mean for You?

Most of the year, we use chloramine to disinfect our water. During this maintenance period, we will shift to chlorine, to give the system a thorough cleaning. This helps remove any natural buildup that can form in pipes over time and keeps the water system running smoothly. It also prepares the pipes for summer when hotter temperatures can increase the potential for bacterial growth.

What to Expect:

  • Change in Smell or Taste: You might notice a temporary change in your water’s taste or smell—some people describe it as more "chlorine-like". This is completely normal and safe.

  • Discoloration: Some residents may see a slight tint in their water due to system flushing. If you notice any change in color, run your tap for a few minutes to clear it.

  • Special Considerations: If you have a fish tank, use specialized water treatment for medical equipment, or have other sensitive water needs, be sure to take the necessary precautions to remove chlorine before use.

Your water is still safe to drink, cook with, bathe in, and use for daily activities.

Here are simple steps to minimize taste, odor, or skin sensitivities:

  • Placing a pitcher of water in the refrigerator overnight

  • Flavor your water with a slice of citrus

  • Add a crushed Vitamin C tablet (1000 mg) to your bath water
